Liu Cheng named top pick in 2011 SBL draft

Liu Cheng was named the top pick in the 2011 SBL local players draft on Oct. 7 as 13 of 17 applicants were selected by six SBL teams.

Liu, a 1.90-meter forward from Min Dao University, was selected by KKL at No. 1 as expected while Chen Hsiao-jung went No. 2 to Taiwan Mobile and Lai Po-lin was picked up by Bank of Taiwan at No. 3.

KKL, which owns the No. 1 pick for the first time, added five news additions after losing many players to other teams previously. It also selected Yang Shu, also from Min Dao University, at No. 4.

TM picked up a pair of 1.97-meter forwards — Chen Hsiao-jung in the first round and Chen Po-ting at the second.

Peng Chun-yen and Lin Li-jen, both played for Taiwan junior NT, went to Pure Youth. Taiwan Beer selected Huang Chia-ming of Min Dao and Lee Cheng-han from Taipei Physical Education College (TPEC).

Dacin Tigers didn’t make any draft pick, forfeiting its draft rights in the first round.

The 2011-12 SBL season is scheduled to tip off on Dec. 17 at Miaoli City in central Taiwan.
