Taiwan lost to South Korea 80-70 in the semifinal of the Asian Championship for Women and China beat Japan 74-62 in the other semi as the Koreans qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics by advancing to the championship game.
The loss means Taiwan’s last Olympics hope will be the world qualifying tournament next June, which will determine 5 wildcard teams out of 12 participants. Taiwan will meet Japan for bronze Sunday.
South Korea led by only two at halftime but used a 12-0 run in the first two minutes of the third quarter to open up the game. Beon Yeon-ha led with 19 points. Park Jung Eun had 16. Jung Sun-min and Jin Mi Jung each added 11 points.
